PASIG Independent Study Course: 20.3, Physical Therapy for the Performing Artist
This course specifically addresses the rehabilitation needs of 3 professions of performing artists: the figure skater, the instrumentalist musician, and the artistic gymnast. The authors introduce the reader to each respective performing arts and delineate the specific role of the physical therapist. Unique examination and intervention strategies tailored to the needs of these populations are highlighted.
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to do the following:
- Understand the importance of conducting a subjective examination for the musician that is expanded to include music performance-related questions.
- Identify roles of instrument-specific posturing and movements of the musician and be able to incorporate these predispositions in an objective examination.
- Develop appropriate intervention strategies for musician-specific musculoskeletal pain.
