Breakout Session Details

Following the general session on Friday, the registrant will attend two breakout sessions, followed by an interactive session and panel discussion to end the day. Registrants will note their preferred order of attending these 2 breakout sessions on the registration form.  

Breakout Session #1:

Considerations for Managing Vestibulo-ocular Impairments
Speaker:  Airelle Giordano, PT, DPT
Description: In this session we will review key tests and measures for identifying and differentiating vestibular and oculomotor impairments that contribute to symptoms post-concussion. Using case vignettes participants will be asked to identify appropriate measures, to summarize their findings and explain how the findings can be used to guide clinical practice. Participants will be given the opportunity to perform/administer the tests/measures and key manual interventions.

Objectives
At the end of this session the attendee will be able to:

  1. Perform key tests and measures.
  2. Identify appropriate interventions, including vestibulo-ocular habituation exercises and progressive tolerance towards return to activity.
  3. Describe and practice appropriate examination and treatment sequencing.
  4. Perform appropriate evidence-supported treatment interventions .
Breakout Session #2:

Considerations for Managing Post-concussion Cervicothoracic
Speaker:  Rob Landel, PT, DPT, FAPTA
Description: In this session we will review key tests and measures for identifying and differentiating cervical and cervicothoracic musculoskeletal impairments that contribute to post-concussive event symptoms. Using case vignettes participants will be asked to identify appropriate measures, to summarize their findings and explain how the findings can be used to guide clinical practice. Participants will be given the opportunity to perform/administer the tests/measures and key manual interventions.

Objectives
Given a patient with persistent symptoms after a concussive event, at the end of this session the participant will be able to:

  1. Perform key tests and measures.
  2. Identify appropriate interventions, including manual therapy, exercise, progressive tolerance towards return to activity.
  3. Describe appropriate intervention sequencing.
  4. Perform appropriate evidence-supported manual interventions
