Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution, dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for a tenure track 12-month faculty appointment in the Program in Physical Therapy. The University is a Carnegie Research University (high research activity) and currently employs over 3000 full and part-time faculty and enrolls more than 12,000 students in the graduate, professional, and undergraduate programs. The Program in Physical Therapy is housed in the Doisy College of Health Sciences (DoisyCollege.slu.edu) and is located in the Allied Health Professions building. This building has classrooms and laboratories with state of the art teaching and research technologies. There are presently 18 faculty members in the Program who teach in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, engage in scholarship activities, and participate in service to the University, the profession, and the community.

Position: 12-month appointment as tenure-track assistant professor/associate professor

Assistant/Associate Professor Position

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science in the School of Health Professions at the University of Kansas Medical Center invites applications for a full-time 12 month, tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Applicants must have a PhD in rehabilitation science, physical therapy or related field; expertise in musculoskeletal or advanced clinical orthopedic physical therapy is required.

The candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an independent research program, obtain external funding, and mentor PhD students. Applicants for the position will teach advanced clinical orthopedic courses in the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.

The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Kansas Medical Center opened its door in 1944 and has graduated 100 PT classes from the program. The department offers an entry-level DPT degree with 36 students/class, a robust PhD in Rehabilitation Science with approximately 20 full-time students, and a joint DPT-PhD degree. The program is ranked 9th in the nation among PT programs at public institutions by U.S. News and World Report. The faculty has diverse research expertise in the areas of musculoskeletal spine and peripheral joint injuries, chronic pain conditions, aging, wellness and fitness, lymphedema, diabetes, stroke, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's diseases, as well as research in medical/health professions education.

The University of Kansas is ranked 7th in the country by the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education as one of the top academic institutions for junior faculty. The department enjoys strong administrative support within the School of Health Professions, which has one of the highest NIH-funding levels in the nation. The department has multiple possibilities for clinical practice and generous research support. REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates for the 12 month, tenure track position should have
  • an earned Ph.D. in Physical Therapy or related discipline
  • advanced clinical specialization in neurological or orthopedic physical therapy
  • an ongoing scholarly activity that includes research, grant funding and publication
  • 3-5 years experience in physical therapy academic administration and 3-5 years college teaching experience.

The candidate is expected to teach courses in her/his area of clinical or research expertise and should be willing to teach interprofessional courses. Interest in teaching adult learners and expertise in online teaching pedagogies is preferred.

The appointment will be made at the rank of Associate of Full Professor depending upon qualifications and accomplishments.
