How it Works
Each independent study course consists of 3, 6, or 12 monographs in a binder along with instructions for completing the final examinations online. If you are unable to complete the final exam online you can request hard-copy materials from the Section office. Monographs are 16 to 28 pages in length⁞ and require 4 to 6 hours to complete. Ten multiple-choice review questions are included in each monograph for your self assessment (answers are on the last page). Current Concepts of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy consists of case scenarios and multiple-choice questions. The final examination consists of multiple-choice test questions.
If notification of cancellation is received in writing prior to the course, the registration fee will be refunded less a 20% administrative fee. Absolutely no refunds will be given after receipt of course materials.
Many of our courses have limited print quantities available. Some courses may be placed on CD once hard copies are gone. Once a CD is received by the registrant no refunds or exchanges will be given. Please check online or phone the Section office for availability of hard copy vs CD.
Important Note: Although the Orthopaedic Section will make every effort to accomodate expedited processing, please be advised that we cannot process most exams in this manner, REGARDLESS OF LICENSURE DEADLINES. Results will be returned 6-8 weeks after the examination deadline.
To receive continuing education, registrants must complete the examination and must score 70% or higher on the examination. Registrants who successfully complete the examination online will be able to print a certificate recognizing the contact hours earned. Registrants completing a hard-copy exam will have their results mailed to them. Fifteen contact hours will be awarded for completion of 3-monograph courses, 30 contact hours will be awarded for 6-monograph courses, and 96 contact hours will be awarded for the 12-monograph course. Only the registrant named will obtain contact hours. No exceptions will be made. Registrants are responsible for applying to their State Licensure Board for CEUs. Please see the individual listings below for courses approved by NV, OH, TX, OK, CA, and NATA. As an approved provider through APTA, the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York have approved all independent study courses offered through the Orthopaedic Section.
SPECIAL NOTE ON NEW YORK, MARYLAND AND PENNSYLVANIA STATE APPROVALS:
New York: The Orthopaedic Section, APTA, Inc has been approved as a sponsor of continuing education for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. This approval is effective November 19, 2009. Please contact the New York State Education Department, Office of Professions, for additional information.
Maryland: Chapter 08, Continuing Education Requirements; .03, .03, Continuing Education Requirements; E, Continuing education courses sponsored by the American Physical Therapy Association are automatically approved by the Board. Please contact the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy for additional information.
Pennsylvania: The Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy has determined that APTA and its components have met the standards for approved courses and programs. Starting January 1, 2011, all continuing education requirements are approved when offered by APTA and its components. Please contact the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy for additional information. **PLEASE NOTE: Registrants requesting EXPEDITED/OVERNIGHT shipping of their order will be charged an ADDITIONAL $25.00 Expedited Processing Fee in addition to the actual cost of overnight shipping charges.
